Cat needed??

I have an M42 engine from a BMW 318is 1994/1995 engine. Installing it in an MNR. I understand that the emissions limits are slightly lower than todays limits but anyone have a clue if I will get away without a costly (and ugly) cat converter?

The engine is running a completely standard fuel injection system.

You will need one if the engine was made after aug 1995

Result! Checking the V5... Car born in 02/1995. Not questioning ones knowledge but how sure are you on this?

If the engine is pre Aug95 (and you can prove it) then the emmision test is CO<3.5% and HC<1200ppm at idle. Those are the pre cat' limits. It should run somewhere around 0.5-1.0% co without a 'cat, so no cat' needed.

when looking at the above you need to know your kit will not be on there data base hence aug 95 and not 92 but you will need proof.
