XE pick-up pipe question.

Does anyone know the correct gap between the bottom of the sump and the pick-up pipe on a Red Top??

Not sure on the correct distance but be careful I have a 2.0 8v vauxhall engine which I fitted a QED sump to and put some of that carbon build up cleaner in it first run out and the oil light come on,chap that rebuilt it said it had been starved of oil as you could see a mark on the bottom of the sump from the pick up pipe.

Was that with the corresponding QED pick-up too?!

I've chopped my sump and now need to shorten the pick-up......and it's not like I forgot to measure the sump before abusing it or anything......

I can't answer your question, but when I chopped my sump on my XE, I simply bought a shorter pick-up pipe from QED. I hasten to add, that was after trying to shorten my pick-up pipe - I couldn't re-weld it without pinholes

Yes full QED set up so I think you need to be careful with the sump gasket you use.

5mm is fine

Can be checked by a 'dry build' using Plastercine to check the clearence

Have heard of a couple of folks have had the same issue with the QED sump set-up, but not sure what gasket/s they were using

ditto about 5mm, its not too critical, just don't go less than 3mm. As above, a dry build with plasticine is a good idea
