ZX6r jets, how to replace?

As the title really.

I need to swap out the original bike jets for 160's (which I have) but not sure how or where they are inside the actual carbs. Do I go in through the black caps?

Many thanks

Daz

You need to remove the float bowls from the bottom of the carb and you'll see the jet in there.

need to take the float bowls off the bottom use a good fitting screwdriver as it they tight heads easy to round off and then look at the brass ject in the middle un-screws.

Thanks guys, looks like I'll just pop the bank of carbs off the manifold and onto the bench rather than working upside down.

Cheers

Hi Daz,

I asked the same qestion a couple of weeks ago - well almost the same and nearly drilled the wrong jets....

All of my screws - except 1 came out ok. Only to find out that the jets fitted were already
1.6mm holes sizes !!!!!

Good place to start I was told so leave untill rolling road test before drilling out further.

Question for the combined minds of the forum -

How do you change the needle hieght???

Hi Len.

Thanks for the photo.
Yeah, I was told 1.6's too, which hopefully will get me to the MOT station and fingers crossed ok to get emissions sorted. Then it's off to the rolling road where they can fiddle with it.

It's worth replacing the screws with cap heads while you have the float bowls off.

This may be a silly question, but are there any needles inside these carbs that need adjusting now that I have done the main jets?

The original jets were 137.5 on the middle two, and 140's on the outside two. Is this the right sort of number to indicate that they were defo from a bike?

Many thanks

Yes that the normal jet settings for the bike the middle two carbs have taller trumpets on
when i did mine i swapped the middle two trumpets to match the outer two and drilled out the main jets to 1.6mm

Thanks for that. Any idea about the needle, as stated, not sure if there is one fitted?

On the bike carbs you need to take the tops off each carb, pull out the rubber vaccuum and the needle is attached to it underneath. I`ve just fitted some ZX6R carbs too. I raised the needles on each carb by 2 notches. It was covered in a thread I put on here about a month ago. Have a search. Since changing the jets and altering the needle positions I`ve only had one very quick run out but first impressions were great.

Nice one Snippy, will be doing it tomorrow.
I have the 1.8 silver top with the 2.0 ltr cams, so it looks like the 160's seem to be the right choice from reading the other threads. Failing that I can tinker with the old jets.

Thanks mate
