wiring in the tunnel fixing?

Just a very quick question, when running the loom down the tunnel can I cable tie to brake line or do I need to P clip it all the way? Also would those self adhesive cable tie bases be acceptable or deemed not permanent?

I wouldn't cable tie to the brake line, double up the P clips using the same fixing hole, large one first then small one for brake line on top.
Self adhesive bases will fail IVA.

Spiro wrap, convoluted tube and P clips riveted in on mine.

Rivet cable tie bases to the chasis then cable tie the conduit to the base.

Used split conduit and P clips on mine, it makes putting the wires in a lot easier than the spiral stuff especially if you use a spout from a mastic tube to put the wires in .

I drilled holes along two strips of ally and riveted them along the tunnel, fixed just to the cross tubes on the tunnel top,one each side. Then I used THIS sort of tie pushed into the ally every 20cm on one side for the loom and THIS sort of clip on the other for the brake and fuel pipes. That way the cables and pipes are secure but you don't have loads of holes in the chassis, all nice and neat and as tin-tops use them, IVA safe,

Nooooooooo !

Rubber lined metal P clips. I would run brake lines, electrics and fuel lines separately.





I'm addicted to brake fluid, but I can stop anytime.

thanks guy's just checking, not done it yet but will be ordering some P clips this week for the loom as well as for the fuel feed and return.

I do remember some one on here a while back saying they cable tied the loom to the copper brake pipe. If they did then they will probably either be failing the iva or re-doing it

Definately keep the wiring loom well away from the Fuel pipe. It was a SVA fail point iff it was too close.
Not sure of the IVA requirements, but probabl;y more stringent than the SVA ones fo 5 years ago.

I used split convoluted pipe, and P clips.
Stick on fixings are not the best way to go, and will fail IVA, as they are not permanant, unless you pop rivet them on.

The Old saying "Dont spoil the ship for a Hap'eth of Tar" applies. Its you pride and joy, dont skimp and do every job properly.

It will make you even prouder when you have finished it and have people admiring your nice handiwork.

Mine runs in a steel tube the length of the tunnel - which proved its worth the day the propshaft let go and flailed about, denting [but not flattening] the tube. Had the fuel and wiring been exposed, the result could have been a lot more dramatic!
