Randomly enough....

My mate used those guys this week on his astra cdti 150

he drove up to them after seeing them advertised on ebay, said they knew what they where doing and couldnt speak highly enough of them. they are making them in house and said his cost a lot less than most out there.

he's over the moon with the performance and increased mpg.

They are closely connected with "Rover Ron" who started out making boxes for strangely enough Rovers. Rover Rons stuff has a very good reputation BUT as regard MPG remember these boxes produce extra power by more burning fuel, although some economy is clawed back by extra boost.

I think the increased MPG he is getting isnt when his foot is flat to the floor.

on another note, it smokes like a tractor now

Not sure how true it is but don't you start using turbos with these boxes?

Remember reading about Renault diesels and some BMW diesels getting through lots of turbos due to more boost

Thanks
Dan

I'm always very sceptical of things like this. I'm sure they change the feel of the car by altering the power delivery, but as BT says this is achieved pretty crudely by lobbing more fuel in. If it were that simple to increase power AND economy then the manufacturers would do it themselves (and yes I know the argument about manufacturer's having to cater for a wide range of fuel quality and ambient temperatures etc.), after all, we'd all buy the car that gave higher power AND better economy.

Interesting to note Mike's additional comment about the smoke

Yep smoke = worse fuel economy (incomplete combustion) ???

these get some good reports from people ive spoken to altho ive never tried them myself

also triple eight do the 200 bhp map for your car which is possibly more than your looking for but i'd imagine it would be good fun

A mate of mine had a White 888 Astra deisel from Thurlby motors brand new. It was awesome!! Wasn't like driving a deisel at all. And the brakes were HUGE!! Great car and I normally hate Vauxhalls. Sorry to go OT

Thanks
Dan

Driving any turbo hard and not allowing it cool down time before switching off will kill it, that and not using fully synthetic oil.

A proper quality remap is almost always better than a tuning box

I've used sptuning.com in the past

It shouldn't smoke like a tractor if its done correctly
