Visiting DVLA

I noticed quite a few people have popped into the DVLA on the way back from their IVA to sort the registration out.
Just wondering how this has been done? Do you just turn up unannounced with the forms filled in ready, or do you pre-arrange?
If it's the latter, how did you get to talk to you local office directly?
This would work well for me after my re-test at nottingham as the DVLA are only just down the road from the test centre.

Cheers,
Bill

I was told I could not make arranged visit so I just turned up on spec Small wait while I filled in the forms ( and tried to blag an age related plate without a doner V5... Failed ) but after about 45 mins was walking out with tax disc in hand

Still not got V5 through post yet but they did say 5 - 6 weeks and its only been 4

That was at Preston DVLA by the way.
Good Luck

they don't like you driving to DVLA in your new car, maybe its ok if you can show you're on your way back from VOSA?
since you are allowed to drive to-from IVA.
were you going to drive? or trailer to iva?

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

SVA at Beverly, dropped into Stockton on the off chance, plonked all the forms on the counter and said "Hello, I would like to register my car please"

All sorted in about 25 minutes, they couldn't have been more helpful.

Thanks for the replies guys - sounds like this is a plan then
I'll be driving my car - the DVLA is pretty much on the way home from the test centre.

Cheers,
Bill

i'd maybe check with them anyway. i've heard of wardens outside waiting to ticket untaxed/unregistered cars if not on a trailer

DVLA Stockton now does the inspection at the VOSA centre in Darlington. They don't have any paperwork available there so they take the receipts back to Stockton and send the V5 in the post a few days later. The car has to be trailered to the inspection or you will risk being done for no tax.

Hmmm. Starting to worry now. IVA re-test is on the 5th May.
Has anyone done this at Nottingham?

So how do they do that then? If the car's unattended and no reg no, how would they know which car they've nicked and where to send the ticket?

Back on thread though, I trailered my car to DVLA after it had passed SVA 'cos they definitely wanted to see the car. Very helpful chap and he registered it for me there and then and as others have said 20 mins later I walked out with a a tax disc. Got the plates made on the way home too - you need either the V5 or a special little form, can't remeber what it's called, to get your plates made. Went to P'boro DVLA again a month ago with all the paperwork for a personalised plate I'd bought off the DVLA website and again they couldn't have been more helpful.

^i don't know how, but it does happen
i guess the wardens will wait outside til you appear. they know people go to register cars, and they need to be inspected (some places vary i guess) so any unregistered cars not on trailers they'll nick them and wait til you come out i guess

similar to this really lol

DVLA do not inspect cars now. They take VOSA IVA report as OK

Ah, superb

What I think I'm going to do now is leave the car at VOSA after the re-test and nip down to the DVLA in SWMBOs car and see how far I get. If they for any reason need to see the car, I'll ask them what's acceptable.

Thanks all for your replies.

Cheers,
Bill
