Genuine Lotus seven project

Hi folks,

I have a genuine seven S4 chassis and associated parts for sale which I have been trying to sell as a complete project, but due to something that has come up, I'm happy to sell the chassis on it's own, or the complete project. I'm looking for £2250 for the whole lot, or I'll sell just the chassis for £750 if it's a VERY quick sale.

I bought the chassis over a year ago, since when I have been steadily gathering together the rest of the bits listed below. Too many projects mean I don’t have the time, so it’s going to be a while ‘till I could get stuck into it, so it’s time to move on and focus on getting my camper ready for the rest of the summer.

It’s an early Series 4 frame, from which I have stripped off the steel side panels. The tubes are in very good shape, and the front box is pretty good too. The last owner was restoring his car and as it was stripped, he decided to build it up on a new chassis.

Just 2 of the bottom tubes need localised repair / replaced due to corrosion which had started between the tube and the side panels. (see photos on the link below)

I was going to build it up as a ‘60s style clubman’s type car for trackdays & hillclimbs, so planned to add in a few more tubes and rather than fit a series 4 GRP body, go for a more traditional seven style body in alloy with GRP nose and wings.

This is definitely a project, but more than feasible for a home restorer. A certain level of knowledge / ingenuity will be needed to complete it, but that’s all part of the fun!

If you are thinking of building a Locost or similar, why not make your life a whole lot easier and use a frame designed and built by Lotus?

Parts included with project.

Chassis - Good condition unskinned S4 chassis requiring very localised repair / replacement on 2 lower square tubes)
Engine (1600 Ford 711 block Xflow –has uprated valve gear, ported head, maybe a cam?)
Gearbox
Exhaust / inlet manifolds
Revolution wheels + Tyres (x5)
Triumph front hubs / uprights / calipers etc (will need adapted to suit Ford PCD)
Steering rack - refurbished
Steering column (to be modified)
Wheel arches (x2 + mould)
Alloy racing style Fuel tank
Instruments + switches
Hand brake
Sundries (steering column joints, new master cylinder, etc)

Pedal box parts

Parts still needed. (if it’s not listed above, assume you’ll need to source it yourself)
Radiator (ford escort or similar)
Rear axle (ford escort)
Prop shaft (escort)
Bodywork
wishbones and trailing links (Front w’bones are Lotus Europa)
Misc sundries (wiring / trim / brake / clutch parts etc)
spring / damper units
Carb / exhaust tailpipe

There are plenty photos on Flickr at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/44645707@N00/sets/72157624269902431/

Obviously, the car is in bits, so you’ll need to allow for this when collecting – you aren’t going to drive it home!

I’m in Penicuik, about 10 miles south of Edinburgh, so please bear this in mind if you are a long way away.

Please note, in answer to the question I am asked a lot, the low price reflects the fact that whilst the car has the original frame number, it will require to be re-registered (as per any locost), if you plan to use it on the road as the chassis number and registration did not come with the chassis when I purchased it.

I take it there is no v5 or chassis number if the previous owner discarded this chassis for a new one?

yes. this chassis has the original frame number (visible in the photos) but the owner retained the chassis number and V5c.

The frame could eithe rbe used to restore anothe S4 or be built up as the basis of a Locost. the price reflects this of course.

The frame needs very little work.

can of worms that one! everything else was transferred onto the new chassis. By the rule of 5 (does it still exist?) the ID would remain with the 'original'

So whilst I agree with you to a point, but that would mean just about every Elan, Europa, landrover etc etc would lose their identity. it would also be vague and unenforcable when it came to accident damage.

The chassis is now on Evilbay and I've made the ID issue quite clear. I am selling it as suitable to restore another S4 or as the basis of a Locost or similar kit.

eh, it would appear I'm an idiot, and didn't include a price to show what a bargain I'm offering.......

I'm looking for about £2000 for everything as a package, but I have the chassis frame itself on Evilbay at the moment at just £675 ono as I'm looking to get it moved on as something has come up I really want / need to act on quickly if I am to do so. happy to listen to offers

If the chassis sells on the bay, the other parts will be offered to the buyer (at additional cost) and anything left will then be available seperately.

Oh, I also have a contact for a chap with a body and a few other bits and bobs for sale and have the drawings available to make tubular front wishbones both of which are freely available to the buyer if they want them (drawings and contact details, not the actual wishbones and body!)

Might be due to a total lack of interest in an S4 with No registration, and missing ALL the expensive bits.
Likely better off to sell off the parts piecemeal..and forget the S4 pieces as any project.

it's not priced as a genuine Lotus - the price is based on the parts and the chassis as if it were a Locost or similar (though with the benefit of being Lotus design) so pretty much what you'd pay for and get if you bought an unfinished 'book' chassis needing built up and registered.

thank's for your constructive thoughts though.

I think my location is probably the stumbling block for most.
