EDIS Wiring weak spark
I had a go a wiring up a simple ignition circuit for my CVH just using the EDIS module and coil pack

I did get a spark when cranking the engine over but it seemed a little weak.
So i wondered if I had it wired correctly.
The black wire is the positive feed to the coil pack and edis.
I didnt' have the 25uf suppression to ground fitted as I dont' have whatever a 25uf looks like
Also I wasn't 100% sure on the terminals 1 and 3 on the coil pack
The leads and plugs are fairly old also.
Any thoughts

looks ok, expcept, wires 5 and 6 look like they're in the same hole... but you wouldn't get a spark if they were! have you got a timing
light to check the spark is firing at the right time?
if you have 1&3 the wrong way round on the coil, then you can swap over the HT leads to account for that. 1&4 fire off 1 wire, 2&3 off the
other, so swap lead 1 for lead 2, and 3 for 4, and see how that goes

Have you got the correct R resistive rated spark plugs?
Think i've read there's something built into the EDIS to protect it if there the wrong plugs, think I've seen it myself too

that's this bit:
have a look in the scrapyard, they should be on or near the coil pack mounting braket depending on the car (fiesta, escort, mondeo, etc....)

They were just the sparks plugs that were sat in the cvh when I had it, so I guess that might make a difference.
Anyone know if I need the supressor?

The 25uf capacitor is to squelch electrical noise, it won't help with a weak spark. I was suffering electrical noise on my RPM reading so I
fitted the capacitors and it made no difference as it was actually my injectors that were the source. Not a problem you'll have

You don't need it to make it work, but it's a good idea to include it. Without it the wire between the battery and the coil +ve behaves
like a big antenna, radiating all sorts of crap.

Would there be a supressor in the pile of wiring and bits from my donor, I didn't strip just bought the parts but hvae the complete wiring loom
and many bits and bobs, woudl just need to know what to look for.

We never used the suppressor, and unless there's one built in we haven't got one on out Duratec install either.
It might be better with one but as its been said it should run without.
Even if there was 'noise' without the suppressor, the fact that it's sparking even in Limp home mode it should still be a nice big
fat spark ( surely the nose would only effect the timing of the spark).
Might be worth making sure the body of the EDIS module is onto a flat metal plate aswell to earth it and to dissipate any heat generated, there
usually bolted to the bulkheads on the donor.
Resistive plugs usually have a R somewhere in the code numbers on them.

Just a sanity check - you do have a spark plug connected to each coil output and have the all spark plug bodies grounded don't you? If you are
only checking a single output and the other side of the coil is left floating then you may only get a weak spark (and potentially damage the coil).

Good advice,
Because the ht leads didn't fit in the head I only had 2 plugs connected and earthed, I'll plug them all in and earth and recheck.
Hoping that as I had two plugs connected both sides of coil should have been ok
Ordering the right plug leads as we speak,
I think 1.3 ford KA leads from around 1996 are the best to go for as the bigger sealed leads don't fit into the head!

I had a weak spark with edis when first setting it up. Turned out it was fine if I ran a separate wire to the coil+ so thats what I did. No one ever
really explained why it worked but I suspect it was the coil and edis drawing power at the same time.

Seems sorted now with all plugs connected and earthed a bright white spark could be seen rather than a dull blue one.
