Fireplace idea's please
Right oh, I have just about finished the fireplace. At the moment I cant quite afford the wood burner that I want so what I do need is idea's as
to what to do witht the fire place. I had thought about a log basket, but they seem all too small. The wife want to put a big vase in (which is a no
no as far as Im concerned). So what can I either put in there are do to it to finish it off as a "feature". This weekend it gets painted,
the chimney breast will be red and wall paper either side.
In side will probably be painted a warm cream. So help me with some idea's please before swmbo gets all arty and starts buying sticks with
lights on, vases, giant candles etc. Here is the sizes:
Appreciate idea's thanks. Will update when i've decided.

Just had a thought, what do you lot think if I put in a raised sort of platform, logs underneath and a log basket at a slightly higher point??

If you have logs then you ought to have a fire, I put a wine rack in the old fire place where there wasn't a fire, but the plan was to put in a
catalytic gas stove thingy. The advantage being that there is no chimney required.
Have you got a stack hifi, that would fit perhaps?

I little of topic but that would look lovely with a bit of sandstone as a base.

GF and I did exactly the same. We put a faux log burner in (cost about £70 I think.) It looked very realistic and fooled most. The only problem was
that we never turned it on - it was like a rhythmic gymnast playing with a hair dryer.

"Please Note. Auction price is for cut metal only and you will need to roll, weld and paint it yourself"
So £45 BIN for £3 worth of scrap
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Stick a sheet of glass on the front, fill it with water and put some tropical fish in it.......
Put a metal grill on the front and keep a few budgies in it........
Paint the inside black and have a large model train coming out of the tunnel.......
The possibilities are endless...

I still need to paint it , but its always too hot !
One old propane cylinder , a few cutting discs , some scrap 4" pipe from work and a few hours welding - heats the house a treat , and cost
nothing
Its cuz I is blond , innit

Claire what you need is a flat steel plate welding on top of the cylinder to heat a kettle / pan of beans on etc

Fill it to the top with round logs of the same length....
I had a house with alcoves either side of the chimney breast, lined them with ply and filled them to the ceiling with logs.

That's showing initiative, I liked the original concept though like telling someone they can build a car for £250 or something
