VW Swan Neck Tow Ball

I've just bought and fitted a 2nd hand towbar to my Bora but have now realised that the Swan neck tow hitch it was missing doesn't seem to be available in the same way that the flange type tow hitches are. Bit of a long shot but does anyone have one or know where I'm likely to find one?!

Failing that, am I likely to be breaking any obscure law/invalidating my insurance by making an adapter for the flange type hitch myself?!

what make of tow bar was it, as there are different from make to make.

have you contacted the manufacturer parts must be available as the ball does wear out.

You will invalidate your insurance in principle if you make an adaptor as the hitch is "approved" (older car's you could get away with this as there was no approval). I have a Skoda Octavia, and the hitch is a factory fitted one, no bumper cut act very nice hitch if it's of this type I would source a swan neck as they are a good hitch. I didn't realise the car had a hitch it was so well hidden, when we bought it!..

I think the standard fit hitch is from one of the common hitch manufactures, you should be able to find the correct one after a bit of research (most seem to have instruction PDFs with drawings on the web so hopefully you will be able to identify the swan neck manufacture from these???)

Is it the type that attaches with 2 bolts or the posh one with the dedicated thumbscrew attachment? You can buy them but they are expensive separately.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I had the same problem, my passat had a missing swan neck which was too much hassle to get replaced. I got a witter kit off eBay including electrics for about 90 quid....
