Duratec clutch/flywheel setup

My brother has just bought a 2.0 Duratec to put in his R6 and need a little info on flywheel clutch combo`s available to him using a type 9.

He is probably going to run a std engine for now with 45`s so if he is lucky then around 180 bhp.

What does he need?

Locost in mind for now please

I believe we used the ST150 flywheel, with a standard mondeo/st150 flywheel (not sure they are the same) with a specific AP drive plate for the job that was in the order of £40-50. I will try and get the part number of the drive plate.

Can you not use the Zetec pressure plate and a std RS2000 bearing?

Big Vee Twin,

Do you have a part number handy for the "Heavy Duty RS Turbo pressure plate"? Pinto friction plate would be AP CP5352-5 I IIRC?

Laptoprob,

With the ST150 flywheel I don't think the standard Mondeo/Focus type starter will fit (IIRC) - obviously ST150 starter would though.

Are you thinking cable or hydraulic clutch?

Other flywheel clutch options aren't cheap but you could use a Titan lightweight flywheel (4.7kg or even lighter), Pinto friction plate (as above) and clutch cover. Need to make sure clutch cover and flywheel have matching PCD since there are different combinations.

Cable op for sure at the present.

Titan version is lovely but it needs to be on a tight budget at present.

Can i not use the zetec flywheel etc?

You can use an older Zetec plate, but if you like doing Duratec on Throttle bodies the BHP exceeds standard pressure plate,

I got mine from Techni clutch, also when you use a FWD clutch plate the fingers are too long and have to be shortened to allow the Thrust brearing Tube to fit.

If the pressure plate fingers are flat you need to use a curved bearing, if they are curved you can use a flat bearing.

I used the Titon Bell housing and Hydraulics/Bearing.

Yes the standard starter doesn't fit, you can machine the mating surface to make it fit however, needs 2-3mm removing

Sorry to be stupid but just to re-cap...the ST150 flywheel and starter along with the pressure plate and cover from a Pinto will work ok? (upto say 180 bhp?)

Friction plate from a Pinto and Pressure plate from early Zetec or similar.

One other thing to check for with the cable clutch is the pivot point for the release arm. I had to make a new pivot pin because the orginal from RWD is designed for the depth of the Titan FW + Pinto clutch cover but my set up was with a different clutch cover and was shallower.

Looking at the ST150 FW it may be thicker than the Titan FW so may go the other way. You could check the RWD guys and see what they think.

Wasn't too difficult to sort though.
