where do the wastegate gases go?
Nylocks don't like turbo temperatures.

Thanks gents. I just wanted to know I wasn't losing it.
I won't bore you with all the history. Suffice to say the perpetrator of this horror is a mechanic somewhere north of the border, well known in
Uno Turbo circles, revered by a bunch of people on bookface as some sort of demigod and has lots of misguided people eating out of his hand. I called
him out a couple of times for dodgy advice to others and I have been crucified and character assassinated as a result. The pic above shows his latest
masterpiece.
For myself, I have degrees in aeronautical and civil engineering and I work as a specialist structural/civil consultant in railways. I have assisted
(for free - even though I take the professional liability) a couple of people here. I have a number of Fiat/Lancia restorations and major
modifications on the go. One of the jibes at me is I pay a guy to do my fabrication work for me, so I must be a numpty.
I rest my case.
Edit: You got 2 out of 2 deliberate mistakes!

If you do leather him forhis Nyloc error, just make sure that this photo wasn't taken at a build-up/temporary stage...

He's been running it and tuning it on MegaSquirt
http://www.facebook.com/groups/130553130294145/
He also advocates fitting a lower on/off temperature rad fan switch to improve cooling on an otherwise standard tintop. Can't imagine why we all
don't have rad fans running continuously to really improve cooling?
Anyway, enough of the bitching. I'll shut up now.

No, but when this puffed up "professional mechanic" gives advice that will make an innocent trusting punter go out and buy a fan switch he
doesn't need and then proceed to damage his engine through overcooling, I felt the need to put him right. Now it seems I'm a sad old
drunken bitch. Just wanted to get it off my chest as they say.

Yes, good spot. The engine is not a standard Uno Turbo, it's using an X1/9 block. Hence he has had to use the coolant drain plug as his coolant
feed to the turbo. It is closer to the exhaust than the UT's water feed would be. So even though it carries coolant it will perish. Turbo X1/9s
build up fearsome heat under the lid as it's so cramped with no airflow.

The evidence he's been running it like this is there in the oozing melted nylon from the nylocks, so not a build up photo..

I'm looking at the pic on an old laptop - And to me, it could also look like it's been on/off a few times, so the nylon often gets
stripped away in a similar helical manner. (In my humble opinion)
Either way, I merely wanted to prevent the OP looking silly as her first few posts seem to carry a genuine sense of care for her fellow Fiat lovers...

Thanks Steve, you can see wisps of nylon string hanging off the nuts, obviously melted, but I think the nylocs are the least of his worries.
Anyway, I'm not going to go on about it, just wanted my sanity confirmed!

Hey, less of the 'old.'
Had a Mike Spence modded Uno Turbo with water injection. Grin-factor was off the scale.
Power to your elbow!

If that's the waste gate actuating arm in the top left corner then it looks like he has managed to shroud this with his 3/8" plate, the
result will be a broken turbo in short order as it will over speed and stall rapidly... not good, there should be a blended in second pipe IMHO
joining the top.
The nasty fast turn and size does not help power either, I expect it makes the pressure okay but will be consuming a lot of power to do so.
And I am no expert, if it looks wrong it probally is wrong

Spot on Mark! Unfortunately space constraints in these cars dictates the sharp bend if you want to keep the standard alternator (which has to be
shielded and given its own cool air duct) and the handy "hot-box" rear boot, so I'll give him that.
Thanks for the replies everyone, I was beginning to think the emperor's new clothes were real.
Cheers R
