Isn't the 9000 front wheel drive though?

Unless you just want the engine of course.

Bolts up to a R28 Omega gearbox I believe for RWD application

I was so tempted to buy that thing but restrained myself.

Also, those wheels would make an awesome retro locost! (4x108 pcd I believe) A bit big, mind..

(SAAB B234 engine + Vaux Omega gearbox = RWD) + £30 ecu mod = 280bhp = Happy
Not a bad price either.

Edit: Dohh...really slow typer

its a bit expensive to be honest unless there are loads of good parts on it to make money back on.

i paid £150 for my saab turbo engine fully dressed with turbo and and all the gubbins out of the engine bay. £40 for the omega box. add ecu intercooler new prop and a custom spacer to make the saab clutch work on the omega box and you have +200 bhp

the real issue with it though is that the engine is bloody tall. i tried to get the 2.3 in my car and the bonnet would have had to be stupidly huge, eventually gave up and put a 2.0 version in which was a bit shorter but not much. no regrets as its still properly properly fast.

by far the biggest issue i had with it was shortening the sump correctly. i had to hack a good 4 inches off the sump which lead to oil starvation issues on hard acceleration, after killing the first engine i sussed it out and built a fully gated sump for it, since then no issues other than a blown turbo which is always a risk with a turbo car.

Have to say I do not think the mileage is that high on this car 2 of my saabs have had more on the clock than this one was on 385,000 when I got rid of it and that was the same wngine as this.

May have to look at it for my project

If it isn't broken fix it till it is

All SAABs are front wheel drive, but it's the transverse engined ones that are useful for conversions unless you want to use the gearbox under engine set up from the classic 900 & 99.
The later ones with the GM floorpan means it'll bolt right into all sort of other GM stuff, like the mk3 Astra we have that has the 9-3 engine, box & running gear in now.
Our doner was a smashed 9-3 with 63k on the clock, £270.
£300 does in that respect seem expensive for a lot higher mileage but really it's a £300 car you drive & have a good play about with to make sure you're happy with the engine, sell what you can & weigh the rest in to recover a bit back. So you'd be looking at an easy 200bhp engine for under £200, how cheap could anyone ask for?!

Everything can always be cheaper. I'm a tight git if someone gave me something for nothing I would still try and haggle for more of a discount

i think before you go down the turbo road you should fit throttle bodies and a proper ecu. that will drag you in to the modern world.
