Scissor lifts

Any one used/seen these? linky could you get a RWD gearbox out of say an MX5 using one or would the cross members get in the way?

i have seen one in use,it wobbled like a jelly the X member would get in the way,only any use for taking wheels off etc really

That first lift would be OK if you like working on your knees! We have a scissor lift at work that lifts a car up to 2 metres with no cross member that is fine for most jobs. If you have enough hieght then you can't beat a 2 poster

PPC did a buyers guid on these sort of things, and with this type the biggest problem seemed to be the hand winder to raise it, takes forever, and is bloody hard work. Never tried one myself so can't comment from experience. HTH Ray

Its meant for servicing brakes and dropping out oils, no good for taking big bits out

For that you need a four poster or two poster with arms that come in from the side, which if I had the space would purchase.

But at that price its going to be a bit wobbly and weak, all you need to do is not lift to full height.

Watched someone take the engine the bottom or of a mk2 MR2 Turbo with only a trolley jack, engine crane and axle stands but i wouldnt have gone near the job. Horses for courses.
