Koso rx2n, Zetec/Omex

Folks, I'm currently running a Zetec ST engine on Omex 500 Ecu. I'm using the Omex's Aux output to run the VVC, so don't have a Rpm driver.

So for I've ran the Tacho off the Ign 'A' point of the ECU, but I'm getting RPM spikes.

As the Tacho wants a poistive feed for speed and I'm sure that the Ecu fires the coil pack by providing an earth path, this in turn means that the dash is robbing some of the current to the dash rather than allowing it to return to earth via the ECU.

Does anyone have any ideas on where I could find a suitable RPM source?

The manual suggests wrapping a wire around a coil lead, not only is this untidy, but seems a poor solution.

ATB Dan.

The less I worked, the more i liked it.

Dan,

I used this circuit on when I installed MS on my gsxr1100 engine.

It is a basic pull up resistor approach, which should have minimal effect on the rest of your circuit.

In your case you could probable just do half of this (i.e. only one coils worth) so save yourself a diode.

If the tacho normally work but you get the odd spike, then I would just throw some random resistors at it (maybe a variable) and see if you can improve it.

If you call John at Digital Speedos he will offer you a KOSO adaptor to stop the spikes.

I had the same bother with my old Weber Alpha ecu so went for the feed from the coil and needle was all over the place.
