firefox
After having yet another browser hijacker install itself on one of my home pc's, ive given up on internet explorer and installed firefox, as
mentioned on here a month or so back.
painless. even takes your previous IE settings and bookmarks on board.
If you have been thinking of changing, give it a go. Its go the same look and feel, and you will hardly notice the difference.
except that you wont be targeted quite as easily by rouge programs....

I agree, iv been using firefox over 6mths and its been great for almost everything,
reduces popups,
improves browsing security,
tabbed browsing
& all in all painless.
You can install it along side IE so there is no reason not to try it.
Give it a go!

I agree with all you Steves and Stephen - I've been using about six months also and when I see friends browsing and all the pop-up ads they have
to deal with it really makes me appreciate Firefox.
Now I just need to get my e-mail under control, I get roughly 100 spams a day. I make it a point to NEVER buy ANYTHING from a spammer even if
it's something I could use.

Maybe you speak too soon
I've got XP and Googleblock I still get some (what must be Java) pop-ups. However, Wanadoo (of all people) have put a hijacker on my IE
frontpage and I can't for the chu*f get rid of it. HiJack doesn't highlight it well enough - if anyone would fancy a look at my bootlog
you're welcome!
I have been considering Firefox for a while, but my problems installing XP and motherboards chips and stuff. I need to chill for a while longer before
I shake another hornets nest!!!

Been using Firefox (which is free by the way) for about 2 months now. Speaking as an IT professional it is not very often I get to say "bloody
marvelous". BTW install the Firesomething plugin and then populate it with some choice words.... endless source of giggles (my header currently
reads - randomly I'll add - : Slippery Gentlemans Lizard )
As for XP SP2.... ARRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
In security terms it's about as much use as tits on a fish. In other terms - it's crap...
Oh and it forces DRM onto you

I have tried all of the suggested programs that are supposed to remove hijackers that have been mentioned on this site.
They have all been 'tits on a nun'.
The latest my kids got on by clicking a link from a games site. Whoever wrote the hijacker was a moron. It was so in your face, no one would put up
with it for long. Consnant 'pop ups' saying you had a hijacker, and you needed to download some software (yeah right). Do a search, and
google screens dissapeared in seconds, to be replaced with a screen full of porn searches.
Put on firefox, all gone.

David, glad to know there's another Linux fan on this forum - wonder how many Linux geeks are actually registered here.

I gave up on IE ages ago and gave Firefox a go. It's really good but caused some problems with other software.
I now use MyIE2 which is brill and I am also running the latest incarnation which is called Maxthon. It's only beta at the moment which is why I
run them in tandem.
The pay isn't very good , but the work's hard.

I find i need to retain IE for some sites, such a internet banking which insist on using popups for authentication...

You can still use Firefox and allow pop-ups.
When a pop-up appears, a red cross should appear in the bottom corner. Click on it and it will give you a box to allow pop-ups from that site only.

trealise that - but some sites are just so restrictive....... On the barclays site for instance if you double click on a button by mistake you get
kicked straight out ..

Some plug ins don't work with firefox so you have to go back to IE to view certain sites. If I watch some animations in firefox then try to
adjust the volume it crashes and sends an error report. I use the MYIE2 as well Hugh but it is still Internet Explorer with a different front.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

ive checked stuarts avatar on both browsers, and she is faster on firefox. but slow is more sexy methinks!
firefox doesnt understand how to play wmv's yet - it just downloads a screen of garbled text!
also, the bullet points by the side of the latest threads on the home page appear outside of the box with fox, but inside with ie!
