testing Smiths telemetrix tempurature gauge

Hi Guys,

I have one of these:
http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorsport/gauges-auxiliary/smiths-telemetrix-electrical-water-temperature-gauge

and the sender for it:
http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorsport/gauge-sender-units/smiths-water-temperature-sender-for-telemetrix-and-international-gauges

I'm trying to test it but the wiring digram says you do the following

1 terminal to fused battery source
1 terminal to ground
1 terminal to sender

then sender to ground

Every time I try that the gauge maxes out.

Any ideas??

Sounds like your putting full battery voltage across the meter.

Should go like this from Battery +ve, Fuse, First Gauge Terminal, Second gauge terminal to sender terminal, sender body to earth (battery -ve)

If you disconnect terminal 1 (one to sender) then it should read zero, if you then short the terminal to ground it should read max

What is the resistance of the sender, it should read a resistance at room temp - so if it reads zero its possibly faulty?

Worked it out. I was earthing the senders connector and not the actual sender!

Works fine now.

Thanks for your help.
