Book Scanning Cost
Does any one have any experience with scanning books, cost etc. I use a VERY expensive book as a carry around reference for my job. It would be much
easier if I had it as a PDF so I could keep it on the laptop and print out a rough copy for reference.
Unfortunately only half the book is available on scribd etc
This is genuine request I'm not trying to get a free copy, I've already coughed up mega bucks for the book.

Blimey, how big is the book?
Auto scanners exist but they're rare.
Do a search for Book scanning UK and you might find one convenient.
I'd expect, and this is a guess, that your looking at £100 +
Else a said, long night with a flatbed

The reference is over 750 pages and I'm weighing up the cost of doing it my self. If I can get it done for £150 I'd think it would be
worth it.
I am searching for book scanning services and costs.

Hi Liam
I scanned a big pile of important documents a few months ago and once I got into rhythm it took about 30 seconds a page.

Loose page scanning is a LOT easier, and very cheap.
You average (good) photocopier would scan to a searchable PDF no problem
Its keeping it as a book that makes it tricky.
Are you sure that its not available online

photo the pages with your phone then upload, scanning books with a flatbed scanner can be difficult as the pages dont lie flat unless loose leaf.
Large photocopiers tend to have a scamming function but again best if loose leaf
Life is like a bowl of fruit, funny how all the weird looking ones are left alone

if you cut the pages out the spine then run it through a scanner with an automatic document feeder. once your done line all the pages back up and
glue it back into the book.

Assuming you have a computer and printer, buy a usb scanner (£40), do a few trials to get the quality you want - if it's text dont scan at too
high a resolution and remember to scan as black and white, the files you generate will be much smaller. Find a teenager/unemployed person who you
know, give them £100 to scan the book and save as 'book-p1, book-p2. Only pay on completion. Or, if you don't want to pay, I did something
similar, but did the scanning whenever I was sat in front of the telly. Even without paying particular attention you will get through 30 or 40 pages
an hour. You will probably find there are some sections you never look at, and will just not bother scanning anyway.

Hugh

Having had a quick Google book rebinding doesn't look that expensive - take it apart stick it through a page feed scanner and rebind sounds the
cheapest/easiest option. Depends on how keen you are on keeping the book original obviously!

Thanks for the info guys. I am not too keen on unbinding a a £600 book?!?! for obvious reasons. I may want to re-sell the book in the future.
I am reluctant to do it myself because digitising documents used to be my day job and I absolutely loathe it
I'm looking at a few options.
