help brake lights not working seat leon

the glow plud light started to flash on my 04 leon.
Vagcom stays its actually the brake pedal switch, top led light is working but glows very dimly when the ignition is on.
The two side brake lights dont work.
Ive tried two switches on a pattern part and one from the stealer. No joy.
Ive booked ut in at my local specialist but worried its going to cost. Ive checked bulbs, fuse and earths on the lamp holder. They are not getting 12v.
Anything else to try?

Check that both brake light bulbs are not blown? Weird poo sometimes happens when brake light bulbs blow.

Sounds stupid but I'm serious.

Cheers

When you say the high level lamp glows when the ignition is on, do you mean it glows constantly or that it operates with the foot brake but not as bright as it should?

If the centre /high level one is "glowing" then there's a wiring fauly somewhere. I'd check the wireing loom where it goes into the tailgate. Sounds like a short from another source into the brake circuit and thats a likely candidate for it to happen. It shouldn't glow.

When you replaced the switches did you manage to get them set right. Can be tricky on VAG brake switches.

Mike, if you haven't done so already, can I recommend you join seatcupra.net? There's a lot of very knowledgeable people on there, it's a very useful site if you own a SEAT.

The high level lamp is glowing dimly all the time dhen the ignition is on.
it goes bright when the brake is pressed.
I've tried to set the switch but couldnt find a definative guide.

Brake switch probably needs replacing - simple job - get one from Ebay as they're a lot cheaper than the dealer.

Short out the plug that goes to the brake light switch to eliminate any problem with the switch - brake lights should be on whether ignition is on or off. Run an earth direct from the battery (i.e. a long wire) to the rear to eliminate any earthing problems. Is the battery to body earth secure? When brake switch is correctly fitted the plug is at the top,it self adjusts when you fit it so can't be checked when new and not fitted. LED bulbs can cause problems if fitted including the sidelights.
