Cracked screen - HTC Desire
I just managed to crack the screen on my phone (picked up something heavy and it leaned on my phone in my pocket) - and now all I have is a white
screen with a bunch of narrow lines down one side
I've been searching on evilbay for a DIY replacement - but there seems to be about a million models of HTC Desire - and I have no idea how to
work out which I have - all I know is that is a Desire.......
Its just over 2 years old - and not an HD or S , but thats about all I know - I cant see any kind of model number inside it
Anybody done this who can help > I'm a bit lost without it..................
Without sounding like a wanton consumer, couldn't you just get a new phone on contract if it's 2 years old? My galaxy s3 is only £18 a
month with unlimited internet.

out , and yes , I've spent hours tonight on google....) if thats what I want !

G7 is not the right one - I believe that is a cheapo chinese copy and the screen is not correct for your phone.
Rats................
so how can I figure out which is the right one ? I cant switch mine on to find the model , and the instruction book just says desire , and nothing
more

Thats whats getting me confused - I hadnt found a single listing thats not for a G7.......
To add - I have sat here studying the phone , and its looking like the outer part of the screen is OK - I can see loads of cracks , but cant feel
anything at all - which points to it being the LCD bit thats broken - is that likely ?

further research makes me think this statement might not be correct. nearly all the screens available mention A8181, bravo and G7 so I think these
must be ok.
I haven't done one myself but I understand that it is easier to replace the glass and digitiser together on many phones.

Go to 'settings', then scroll down to 'about' and then 'phone identity' - there is then a line that says model
number and it says the full model name.
I'd love to do that - but with a broken/non functioning screen I cant
Gonna take a wander into Coalville and see if I can get it fixed.........I cant take the chance on spending £40+ on bits that may not work

I have an HTC Desire - since finishing my contract recently I've unlocked and debranded it (not something I'd recommend to the timid!)
Coming back to the original question - even if you get a replacement screen you won't find it easy to fit. Having tweaked and tuned mine the
way I like it, I'm still left with some dust on the screen that's leaked in. It really annoys me, so I downloaded a service manual and
read up on getting in there to clean it.
I decided that I wouldn't bother... basically you have to dismantle the phone from the back, unplug all sorts of components, and the very last
part you get to is the screen.
This video should give you some idea of what's involved.
If I was in your situation I'd look for a second-hand unlocked HTC Desire, or start a new contract and get something a bit more modern.

Well - after asking around and searching all over the place , I came to the conclusion that a new phone and contract was the cheapest option - zero
cost in the end
I've now got a Nokia Lumia 800 - but I cant work it
Its got the two main things I wanted - better camera and satnav - but after hours of trying , I cant work out how to download pictures to my computer

Is there a sticker with serial, part number etc behind the battery?
