APS fittings and fitting to braided hose

recently bought some -12 and -6 APS fittings and some -12 and -6 braided hose from jjc. all my other fittings are goodridge and were simple to fit to braided hose but on the APS fittings the hose doesnt fit inside the locking nut! anyone else struggled with these fittings? im assuming you dont need to strip the braiding back so its outside the locking nut?
