OT importing bits from the states

I have ordered my new clutch from the states and it has arrived here in blighty and cleared customs at 0500 this morning. What usually happens now and how long does it usually take? Im guessing royalmail will be intouch with how much duty and vat they want off me?

cheers
Steve

Last time I did this, I had to collect at the big posty over the counter, and pay the import tax.

Try putting the tracking number in the parcelforce or royal mail website.
(depends on the USA carrier, ie using which UK carrier for which site to go to)
I currently have something stuck in customs since the 19th March.

Have emailed Parcelforce today, and will ring tomorrow if I dont get a reply.
Can take up to 10 days, but chase them, once you ahve found which carrier to chase (in the UK)

Hope that Helps.

Geoff

EDIT:
as above, they will hold it at the local depot and write to you inviting you to come and pay the Import / VaT etc.

So, watch the carriers website, and as soon as it arrives at the local depot, print out the page showing the consignment, then take some decent ID and go pay the dues n demands. It saves a couple of days waiting for them to contact you and ask you to pay up.

Cheers

1. The point of a journey is not to arrive.
2. Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

in the past i have had a slip from RM saying that they have paid so much customs charge, they then add their bit on. you go online and pay yer fee, they then deliver.

Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!
