MX5 Haynes Engine Location

I hope to get my engine into the chassis in 2 weeks time to get the last few brackets welded in for a test fit before i paint.

I am using the engine from a mk1 mx5 1.6 and its going into a chasis from the Vodou/saturn dimensions. Should the engine be positioned as close to the driver as possible or is there a set location. Any help much appreciated. Photos even better.

Just a thought, do you need to consider where the gear lever will end up?

I don't think there's a set location as such, but I think most of us have positioned the bottom of the sump about 40mm below the bottom of the chassis and got the engine as far back as it will go without the clutch arm hitting the chassis.
Ideally you need the bodywork to check for bonnet clearance. I had trouble with the intake manifold interferring with the underside of my saturn bonnet and had to shift the engine 25mm towards the passenger side of the bay. Not everyone seems to have had this issue though.
