Do we need a swirl pot?

Hi Guys,

Now i understand the concept of a swirl pot, but are they actually required?
I will be fitting a 2.0 zetec on standard ECU and injection, do i NEED a swirl pot, or would a single high pressure fuel pump straight from tank to inlet be ok?

Cheers,
Andy

it would be ok without one, but you'd risk the pump running dry if the level is low in the tank, and misses the tank outlet under cornering for example.

the other option is to have a small sump fitted to the bottom of the tank, say, 3" diameter, but fed by a 1.5" hole (so its got a rim round the outside, fuel goes in by gravity, but doesn't come out again under cornering when the fuel levels low, that way you can use a single pump

fair enough, sounds pretty conclusive, i'll chuck one in!

Any recommendations for a cheapish solution?

I'm going to need the pot and both pumps!

2 options

Gravity fed swirl pump in/under tank, high pressure pump to engine.

low pressure pump from tank to swirl pot (in engine bay?), high pressure pump from swirl to engine.

I am putting a Zetec into my Dax. I am using the GBS inlet plenum with a standard fuel rail and injectors

I bought one of these:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ALLOY-FUEL-SWIRL-POT-TANK-1-5-LTR-MIRROR-POLISHED-/370340383080?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item563a01c968

And one of these:

And one of these:

Whole lot for less than a ton....

I was fortunate to have an FPR and high pressure filter lying about but it's still a cost effective fuel delivery solution...

My fuel tank has a small swirl tank on the bottom of it,short pipe onto the pump, then straight to the standard ford rail. That's on my 1.8 blacktop zetec with a Spencer Ashley plenum..."........

Contact these guys, they make very good quality swirl pots for a pretty low amount

Can't remember what it was as I last spoke to them in July for some work on my S2000
