Floor swaps these days

I mind as a teen on of the most common ways folk updated the handling of their old car was to cut out the floor of a fast car and then mate it to top section of the old, sierra 4x4 into mk1 escort etc

In those days the DVLA really didn’t give a poop but I’m wondering what the situation is now. What’s the view these days of swapping large sections of monocoque bodyshells, would it then require a IVA test and a new number or just keep the reg of the part the had the most components i.e. the floor section.

Any idea’s

Any changes to the moncoque would result in the need for IVA as it would be a 'radically altered vehicle'.
As you dont 'need' it to register such a car (unlike a kit car), I dount many (if any) ever get properly approved.

seen quite a few focus's with sierra floorpans (or at least modified to sierra dimensions) - they'd need an IVA if you wanted to put them back on the road, but that shouldn't be too hard as most of the light positions sharp edges etc. are taken strait from a type approved donor

and it just so happens I've got a suitable cheap focus donor car for sale at the moment

What a Effing Waste Pore old and actually worth something as a Survivour.
Retrofitted with one of the Worst Power units foisted off on the unsuspecting as "Saab' product.
IMO better to have burned the thing and claimed on the insurance.
