Ford V6 auto gearbox - Which one?

A mate of mine has had a Ford V6 which i think he said is from a Sierra so i may be wrong but i think that means it will be 2.8 or 2.9 and carbed which sounds perfect for my trike. It is in unknown condition and has a cracked sump and he has had it in his garage/conservatory for a while so may be no good. I will obviously do the necessary strip down first but was wondering what auto box i can use on it? If they are too expensive, i may be better off just looking for a complete engine and auto box combination of known working order.

How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

2.8 would be a C3, 2.9 would be an A4LD (there's a couple of versions depending on year)

If it's carbed (as original) it won't be a 2.9. The (4speed) A4LD will also bolt straight up to the 2.8.

Thanks for that. Wont be the end of the world if it is injected, just means finding somewhere to put the ECU. Seem to be pretty cheap on eBay too so hopefully the engine is good

There's two versions of the injection system on the 2.8 too - the usual big rectangular ribbed plenum or the rarer, later plenum which looks identical to the 2.9i item.
