OT old coins help wanted

A mate of mine has found a coin with 1700 ( i cant remember exact date) but 17XX something on it. it was pushed in the mortar of a building he is taking down.

He has been told not to clean it yet, any one on this far reaching forum got any leads or reccomend a good place to get it checked out?

It has HH stamped on it too.

A good place to start is the finds officer (or whatever he/she is called) in your local museum...

They look like silver three pence's (d's) I have a hoard of them collected by my father they are worth what 50% silver content they are as scrap. If I am correct! Wish the image was better.
