Upgrade or change?

I know this has probably been mentioned somewhere before so here I go.

On Sunday I did an event on a really small track event going toe to toe on the opposite of the track which is basically oval in shape..I was in my 919 blade powered toniq r against a well specced Porsche which could of been a gt3, basically I got my ass handed to me good style over four laps trying to catch each other. I know these porches can be lightning quick.

I've had the toniq for three and a half years now and I'm hungering for more power now so do I upgrade to a more powerful bike engine or do I bite the bullitt and change the car to something with a bit more grunt. The blade engine is in cracking condition which I purchased from Mr Bates not to long ago

Which engine is good to change to, like for an R1 or something else?

What is the injected R1 compare to the 919 blade or what other engine isn't too expensive?

Were you losing him on the straights or in braking/cornering?

A well driven, well setup 911, especially a GT3, will be hard to keep up with for most people! I would suggest the larger bike engines offer a better choice as an upgrade. The R1 won't feel appreciably faster than your blade. You need to look at the ZX12, ZX14, Busa etc engines, but it will cost you.

Otherwise you could look to turbo or supercharge your car. I suspect it could be done for a similar outlay, and the results can be quite spectacular.

i went from a 919 to a 5vy R1, it felt a little quicker but not much. top speed didn't improve much on any of the tracks i do but it definitely pulls out of the corners better.

has the oval track much banking? the R1 suffers from surge more than a blade. not badly but i had surge at cadwell when the oil got a little warm even with a baffle plate fitted.

if you can get suitable diff ratios i would go for the newer blade engine unless that's out of budget.

I was slightly better on the corners but on the straight on either side he was probably gaining a few car lengths. I was giving it the best to my abilities.

The track was completely flat

I'm starting to think it might be cheaper and easier to change to a more powerful car but I love the Toniq for its looks.

best option i think. an oval track wont allow you to use the toniq's weight advantage like on a track with plenty of corners.

Remember drag (and therefore power to overcome the drag) increases by a square law with speed so comparing a seven on long, high speed straight with a porker is not the best. To increase your straightline and particularly top end speed (any thing over a ton say) will need big increases in power. Thats the nature of breeze block aerodynamics. Better to compare on a proper track with a range of corners and straights, I was on a track day where two lightweight r1 fisher furys were running rings round a 911 turbo, but not on the straights.

I chased a GT3 around Woodbridge, I could just out accelerate him up to around 110 I guess so getting alongside on the long straight then he started to pull forward before braking, I could keep up behind him around the rest of the track.

He was trying, I could feel his frustration as he was fish tailing out of some of the bends and brushed the bushes at the side of the track trying to get away.
