FORMULA 27..... Good, Bad or Ugly, any thoughts before I go look at one?

Only my opinion front suspension looks a very poor design,not sure if they where live axle or IRS at the back.

The original F27 design used 'leading link' live axle at rear and inboard front rocker suspension (was a copy of the Jeffrey J4).

I have one love it, just as good as anything else the one on the bay is an f27 that has used a dutton reg and v5 there are a number of other cars out
there running the same way people have differnt opinions on that method of reg if i was buying a car i would judge the car itself and the quality of
build but would certainly not want to pay as much for a car on a dutton reg

Another vote in favour but like Ali ^ I'm biased.
Rocking arm front suspension reduces unsprung weight and also gives improved suspension angles as well as allowing more movement.
Whilst they weigh more than something like an MK I reckon that's a plus as they hold the road better and have little, if any, chassis flex- you
can go too light!
If factory built the chassis are robust - mainly decent thickness 25mm SST - plans built and you need to ensure the welding is to a decent
standard.
There were various bonnet configurations.
Older ones (presumably pre-lit Catherham v Westfield) had separate bonnet and nose cone, later ones one piece.
On mine I've converted one-piece to two-piece as it allows better access to the engine bay.
Some were live axle (Escort) whilst others independent (Sierra). The argument is that for track use live axles offer better handling whilst
independent is better all round. If live axle see if you can find out if the shocks have been set up for the extra weight involved.
The moulds are still around somewhere in Northants so GRP panels are available.
Best of luck with your purchase. Ask Matt at Procomp to set it up for you - well worth the money.
