Velocity XT Build so far

After collecting our kit on 23rd October the car got on it's wheels tonight. Fantastic really looks like were getting somewhere.

Were keeping a build diary on www.velocityxt.co.uk if any one is interested.

The only problem is the handbrake to handbrake cable attachement. The cable supplied is differnet to the one in the manual (it loks like the standard sierra item) so the mounting is differnt for the cable and the connection in the manual is not applicable.

Any body had the same problem or got any ideas.

looks good mate...

see you had the same problem with the DIFF as we did. the right top mount was not far enough out to fit the diff - we got around this by bending the bracket...

what size connectors did you use for the master cylinders?

I had the same issue with the handbrake cable. In the end I used a bar between the lever and the u shaped cable guide.

You will find that the manual isn't quite right on a few things. so pays to work it out first before drilling.

I used the same stands as you. Don't! I got to the diff&hubs etc and the rear stand collapsed! Bugger!

They quote a combined weight of 450Kg, but didn't cope.

You will aslo find that it helps to do the clutch pedal and cable and then do the Brake pedal rather than the other way round. This is because the brake bar has to come out for the clutch pedal to come out.

I learnt this the hard way!

Thanks for the info do you have any pics of your handbrake and how you did it?

glad my stands lasted the time could of been expensive and painful

Don't know about the master cylinder sizes just took them to my local hydraulics place and asked for something to fit

Where you have got the handbrake connecting rod with the hole in one end, and the u shaped piece with a hole in the centre, should have a gap bewteen the two of about 3 inches.

I cut some metal bar to length, and drilled a few holes so I can adjust the length, then bolted one end of the bar to the handbrake rod and one to the U shaped bit..

Not sure why luego put the brakets that far forward so you need the extension.

You could try a turnbuckle from B&Q to link the handbrake lever to the compensator. This'll then give you a method for adjusting the handbrake. Although I'm building an Avon, this method should work on your velocity.
Have a look at Pat's Avon site at www.mytigeravon.co.uk for more details. This is where I got the idea from...

Handbrake....

Might be abit late but, you might be able to use the handbrake compensator from Westfield.........(booo)... used it on my Velocity......
