Could I use a diesel filter as a pre pump filter?

Hi all,

I'm just installing my aluminium fuel tank in my Mercedes.
I was thinking of fitting a filter between the tank and the pressure pump.
But, the pipe is quite a big bore, as it is a gravity fed system, and the inline filters I've seen seem to be too small to match the size of the pipe.

So, I was thinking that maybe using a big diesel filter housing might be the best way to go.
Something like a Crossland 522, that is used on job's, tractors, and the like.

What do you guys think?

Cheers Frank.

I would have thought yes. We fitted 522 elements to hundreds of vehicles, but you wont want the conglomarator on the bottom, particularly one made out plastic...You can just use the short housing.....

Yes, I used the wrong picture really(it's 1 I had on my phone), I was thinking of a standard short housing.

I just thought it couldn't hurt to have an extra pre-filter in tge system, and I couldn't see why 1 of these wouldn't work.

If that is the one that fits, then use it. That model of filter must have been fitted to most commercial vehicles in the country at one time.....

That's the main reason I wanted to use it, I've got about 20 filters and a few spare housings kicking about.
