Ford Sierra ECU module - What for?
hi folks
one more time I am appealling for the strong knowledge of the members of this "club" 
I'm trying to understand the mecanics, or in this case the electronics, of the 1988 Sierra 1.6 Pinto carburetor engine with an ECU module.
this ECU was cutted by someone... and just a dozen of wires left stripped.
the strange thing is that the motor and all electrics work. anyway, what is the function of that ECU module?
I thought it commanded among several things the ignition and without it the motor didn't work. anyone can explain me?

I dont remember them having ecus
Its got a carb - not injection and it will have a dizzy with an amplifier
Is it some electronic ign unit that was fitted then removed ?

I've seen many Sierra mechanics and electrics and all had in the right side (LHD) inside the dashboard a metalic box with plenty of wires, less
the Mk1 where that box was very tiny and made of green plastic.
if is not an ECU I don't know what it is and what for it is used.

If it was the ecu then surely the car wouldnt run if it was disconnected

Many Sierra's have ESC modules (Electronic Spark Control)
Depending on model they control an inlet manifold heater and a carb idle stepper motor (to cope with air-con loads, anti-run on and a manifold
ventilation cycle after switch off)
More details in the Sierra Haynes manual chapter 4.

interesting! I think it could be more like this ESC module. but even without it the motor shouldn't be more irregular?
but this motor works very well and it has a great "punch" as it was new.

I may well be wrong but I seem to remember there were 2 ali boxes one the ecu the other the alarm security thingy.
Phoned the local ramblers club today, but the bloke who answered just
went on and on.
