O/T Repairing External Wall Insulation
We have had the house cladded in thick polystyrene type sheets then rendered with a textured magnolia silicone based material.
We have only had this done just over a week and I have put a small hole (roughly about the size of the end of a rake :mad
To say SWMBO is not impressed is an understatement, to the point where I`ve even been kicked out of the dog house
I knew this stuff was never going to be very hard wearing, but I am a bit horrified just how easy this happened. And I`m sure over the years it will
happen again.
I cannot find any solutions for a fix so I am going to put some sandtex repair in, try and stipple it something like and then paint it.
I did think silicone sealant but I doubt you could stipple it.
Anyone know of any other methods?
Oh, and by the way, apart from being easy to bash, it really does warm the house up loads.

Hang on? an external finish that has no strength? That just sounds wrong. I have seen similar stuff in France etc in ski resorts where the external
render has broken just where people kick their ski boots against it, but they are hard boots and the wall would have been kicked a lot.
It sounds like the coating is too thin?
I would be asking the company about repairs, what to use. And also question its suitability......

A friend of mine used to (up till a few weeks ago) be involved with that work, I can ask if he can lay his hands on some. If so
I'll post a jar full to you.

Cheers NigEss. Sounds like just the ticket.

As Cliftyhangar says, I would be asking the supplier for the best way to repair it!

oh dear what kind of finish is that to use on a house?! is that white polystyrene bead foam or closed cell stuff cos the bead stuff soaks water up
like a sponge and then rots.
like above I've seen something similar but on cheap cabins but I'd be very worried about how long that's meant to last and how it
stands up to the elements

Do the manufacturer and/or installer give a curing time for the rendering?
If it's silicone based and outdoors, it may have a fairly long cure time before it's fully hardened.
As above, I'd contact the installer first and get them to take a look.
