Seats/benches? Southeast strikers?

Recently bought my striker from Pekwah on here. Naturally there is a range of fiddling about to do with the car and much of it will wait until the winter for a decent strip down.

I'm just wondering about the seat options for the car and wondering if there are any locals with different seats who wouldn't mind letting me try on their car for size? I don't need a drive around, just would be interested to try out bench seats or a foam insert in person if possible.

I'm just under 6ft but my legs make up the majority of that and I'm getting numb feet in GRP seats bolted to the bulkhead (not the same every time but regularly getting numbness in my right foot and this morning on the way to work I had to stop after about half an hour to let the blood back into my leg!!). I figure an altered driving position and some better support of my thighs would solve my problems and I guess a 'bin-bag and foam' job would probably be ideal but I know they used to use bench pads and I wonder what they're like?

Current GRP jobs are certainly nice to look at but I don't quite suite them. They're too narrow across the shoulders for me and just don't hold the rest of me in the way you would really want which I'm sure is contributing to my numb foot.

Any views on this from the experienced masses?

Also if anyone's looking for a pair of JK seats let me know and I'll update you once I've worked out what I'm planning to do!

Never had this problem myself, but I think, probably, that daveb666 did. Try lowering the front of the seat so it doesn't support under the knees. Works for me

I assumed that the opposite would help (although I haven't tried raising the front of the current seat yet either).

At the moment I have no support under my thighs/knees whatsoever - I sit in the seat, only my arse is supported and my legs go up out of the seat to the high point which is my knees and then back down to my ankles which are obviously on the floor directly in front of the pedals.

I cannot stretch my legs out straight, in any other car I'd be pushing the seat back further but not an option!

I may have to look at altering the pedal arrangement in the fullness of time but wondered if the long-longed amongst us had any success with just the seat options as that would obviously be easier/cheaper for the short term. (no pun intended )

I may be able to help you here.

I brought my striker from a user on here who had bench seats, he was well over 6ft. He even had the pedals adjusted. I am only 5ft 9" so had to get the pedals adjusted and pads put in.

He also had a GRP seat which I took with the car, I swapped it in when I did track days. I have done many miles driving with both (used each seat once when travelling to the ring).

Due to me now having a second GRP seat the bench seats are now redundant and available for purchase.

You are more than welcome to have a sniff around my car and kick the tyres. Its not the tidiest example but works well. You can sit in it with both seat types and compare.

As a side note, I am a clinical engineer specialising in seating (wheelchairs) so I know alot about this subject.

Your numb leg will probably be due to a combination of lacking theigh support (needs to go from back to back of knee) and the high knee position (angle of hips). Raising your knee pushes your ischial tuberosity into the seat cushion cutting off circulation. The specificness of only the right leg going dead is because you are able to move your left leg enough when not changing gear to increase circulation.

Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!

I'm 6'5 ish and I've got a phoenix.

The car came with Tillet buckets that I couldn't even remotly fit into. I sold the Tillets and bought some Intatrim Voyagers, I find these pretty comfy and they fit the car, but they lack a bit of side support and I have to sit fairly upright so my head is nearly at the roll bar.

So I now normally drive the car with a two part foam bin bag racing type seat which I find much better to sit in.

Thanks for the replies all, and bi22le for the technical view on it. That makes complete sense to me, now it's just a matter of working out the best way to get that better position and support in the car.

Thanks also for the offer of trying your car for size - you're not that nearby though so I'm not sure when I'd have time to try that so for now I'll bear your kind offer in mind and be in touch by u2u to take you up on it.

What kind of money would you be after for your bench seats though?

I suspect it's a toss up between spending out on bench seats which would look good as a whole in the car but not necessarily give me a perfect fit although improved over current set up; or swapping out just my drivers seat and trying to make my own foam/bin bag custom seat a la rougespear.
