curved chequer plate for side rails

Hi,

I have side rails a bit like these, well mine is actually the picture below but the same idea. Before I break my neck slipping of them getting in and out is lethal especially in the rain I want to put chequer plate over them.

Does anyone know a supplier of curved plate? My rails are made from 2 inch scaffold bracing.

I did consider making them myself by bending the sheet over the rail seeing that the tubes are so thick but would need quite a lot of plate to do that. The top one is 3 inch tube but thin wall section which makes the bending a lot easier.

Any idea’s

Thanks

Myself I'd go for the self-adhesive sand papery type stuff. It will easily form around the tube and probably give you better anti-slip characteristics too.

Chequerplate isn't 'that' non-slip. I agree with the sandpaper idea. I bought some of the stuff they cover skateboards in. Its ultra non-slip, sticky backed and cheap.

Funnily enough I bought and fitted the sand-papery stuff to the rear bumper of my Passat. I didn't tread on it, but it did protect the paint from scuff marks. Dead cheap and easy to fit as well.

I'd imagine you could cut the shapes you need from skateboard tape as well.

I've got those exact sidesteps on my D90, and as per the above comments, they're not "overly" grippy. But if you're determined to use it on your rock sliders, best option I can think of is to get another piece and use it as a former. Then you can use some closed cell foam on the underside of them to take out any imperfections or gaps between the two parts.

How's about using expanded steel? Tack weld it onto the tubes and then get it powder coated or blather it in paint. Chuck a bit of sand in the topcoat for extra grippyness.
