Curborough in the Indy RR

First visit to Curborough or any sprint track actually, i usually stick to circuits but was blown away by how fun the day was. With only 9 cars sharing the track it was a properly chilled out day. The GP exhaust sounds insane. Cant wait to get back there soon with car goed/corner weights set and maybe try some different tyres instead of the A021Rs. What do you guys suggest for these kind of sprints?

If your going to compete in msa sprints like we do then there will be certain list tyres you can use.or the other option is to run in a modified specialist class and run slicks like some of the kit car guys use.
We all use Avon slicks in the single seaters. Some use sprint compound -a15. Others use the slightly softer a92 hillclimb compound. I personally use a15's as I do more sprints than hills and find them still excellent on the hills. They are both super soft. Softest tyres available.
There's also a set of 13" used ones on uphillracers for about £120 today but they are Jedi sizes like mine. The rears may be too wide for you

Thanks for the info regarding tyres! Will see what i can get and give them a go! Would love to get into some sprints next year, got a fair bit of car setup to do to get it as good as it was with zetec. My problem is that the 3.9 final drive is amazing for these events but would need to shell out for another quiafe in a 3.38 for the track days i do at oulton, anglesey, dony etc.... Proper champagne problem i know haha!

Hehe nope no noise test thank god! I would of been sent home haha! Starting to regain my hearing again now!

A lot of the msa sprints are on fast circuits. Croft,Anglesey,Aintree,Blyton etc.
You'll really enjoy it and I can highly recommend it. You don't get a lot of seat time, but it's good competition and there's some really fast guys competing.
One thing for sure is no track will give you the buzz of Driving a hillclimb at full commitment! And a lot of championships have a mixture of sprints and hills

If you want to run in road-going specialist production cars (Kitcars) then the tyre of choice is either Avon ZZS or Toyo R888R at the moment. The requirement is to run List 1B tyres. If you want to run in modified specialist production cars you can run List 1C tyres (Avon ZZR are the choice here) or you need a MSA Vehicle Passport which allows you to run slicks.

You'll also need to look at the MSA Blue Book as you'll likely need a new ROPS (Roll Over Protecion ie Cage/Roll-Hoop) unless the one you have has been homologated by the MSA.

You will need a MSA Non-Race Nat B license, FIA approved suit, FIA gloves and your helmet needs to meet the current MSA requirements. If you want to run in modified specialist production you'll additionally need a FHR device (HANS or Simpson etc) and your helmet will need to be able to take a FHR.

Excellent! Thanks for the detailed info guys!

Yeah on a usual day i have full race suit, gloves and trailer the car with full support. Was pretty great to jump in the car and simply drive 30mins to the track and go have a laugh!

Brilliant info on the tyres, I may see if i can get a set of Avon ZZRs to try . Been meaning to get a HANS device for a while too!

Exciting stuff!

Make sure you check the Blue book for the ROPS as visually your cage will not be compliant.

I guess that would be due to the bends in the roll overs??

Will be gutting to have to shell out to have that fixed!

Once again thanks for the info, very much appreciated!

The rear hoop needs to be 45mm x 2.5mm CDS or 50mm x 2mm CDS. It will also need back stays and a cross-bar. Like I said study the Blue Book.
