Engine - Gearbox adapter plates

I'm working on connecting an RV8 engine to Porsche 944 transmission.

I have the flywheel and clutch sorted.

I'm now thinking about the engine to bell housing adapter, and the thickness / workability aspects of what to make it from, I'm planning on going with 10 or 12mm aluminium, what have others used for such adapters?

If I go above 12mm its into lazer or flowjet cutting territory, are there places who will do this from an MDF or similar template?

Cheers.

Pete.

I just bought an RX8 to Ford Sigma adaptor from a guy on ebay/turbosport, this is in 5/6mm steel IIRC.

Try lasermaster in Cornwall for a quote I have had 8-10mm ally cut by them before, great service.

Surely the thickness will be dictated by input shaft length, distance from mounting face to clutch fingers, you may well find your initial guess way out, some ive been involved in dveloping have been over 30mm thick to get dims correct

Yes I had thought of that, the 944 starter is on the back of the bell housing, so is the clutch actuator, so it important that my flywheel is in the correct place relative to the bellhousing rather than the engine. a 10 - 12 mm plate gets me within 1mm, an 11mm plate would be ideal, but that isn't a standard size as far as I'm aware.

The mix of Rover crankshaft aligner and Porsche flywheel will allow me to shim up or machine down the flywheel mounting position to match. This thread with pics will illustrate better: Flywheel thread

Cheers.

Pete
