Certified idiot!

Spent the last couple of weeks trying to get engine running after buying modified ECU that can be used as a standalone unit. Today, when about to give up for the day I found, at the back of the main engine loom boot (hidden from view), a ground connector hanging in mid-air which looks like it grounds everything control-wise in the engine bay ;-(

Hooked it up and it attempted to fire up but think have flooded engine. I’ll hook up the OBD connector to the ECU to make sure everything else tickety-boo. So close!

Aaaarrgghhhh!!!

sorry you don't qualify in the true idiot category.

remember systems are always being designed to be idiot proof, so then the grade for first class idiot goes up, and they have to make a better idiot.

a true idiot, would have said, what does this wire do, must be positive to the battery without any switching or fuse.

It's not easy being an idiot. (see my avatar!)

Funnily enough - whenever people have an electrical problem on this forum the usual answer is "check the earth connection". Coincidentally, it often turns out to be exactly that issue!

Glad you've sorted it out.

often worth [actually near essential] having someone else looking at a problem, its really really easy to keep overlooking the same fault.
or just describing the fault, and you yourself realising what may be wrong.
