cost of steel
Is it just me or had the price of steel shot up?
(Ok I've not looked in a few years)
Where are people buying 25mm RHS 1.5mm from and at what price? I'm looking for approx 12 or 15m of the stuff and it's double what I
expected.
Local place doesn't even do collection since the pandemic so I have to pay postage despite being a couple of miles away!

Last year I paid £17 for some tube and box section, the same products today are £23. That was from the metal store. They're not a cheap supplier
compared to pickup, but for delivery it worked out quite decent.
But yes, if my GCSE maths is correct that's about a 35% increase in about 15 months.

Building materials aswell
We've been buying unfinished timber and cutting and planning it to keep the costs down
Mate who does high end extensions is costing it out at double what he used to per cubic metre
Its all gone daft

Mentioned this to a friend who builds very large steel framed buildings for a living and they agreed with everything below - its not just me / the
company i was looking to use.
So, any recommendations for a online supplier ? I want to build a new (beefy) weld trolley to hold the tig, mig and two gas bottles whilst trying out
my new metal band saw.
(preferably one with decent delivery charges / times - i'd like to build it before WW3 starts)

I deal with a vast amount of raw material purchasing through work. You are correct, the prices did go up somewhat significantly, however we have seen
they are on the way back down most recently, although just today it was suggested it will start to climb once again.
I think we started to see the climb at the start of the year, so I ordered my chassis steel just before the climb. It was the kick up the chuff I
needed!
I have found in the south east as a private buyer the best place to buy from is F.H.Brundle. I think I paid somewhere in the area of £225 for all of
my chassis box and wishbone tube. That was delivered also.
A few years ago I priced this up and if I remember correctly I was looking at around £120 from J.S.Steel.
Hope that’s of some help.

we have it in our contracts that the price goes up £250 per tonne per month - so if the client delays the job they pay more...

No idea what their prices are like currently as I've not bought for a good while. If they've go a depot close try B & M Steel. They
always used to let me go and collect and pay at the counter. They'd cut bigger bits for me to fit in my car too.

Had forgotten then, I used to use them when they were metal supermarket. Metals 4u and metal super store seem to be around 90 quiz delivered,
they're 115 which may include local delivery.

Nottingham appears to be the closest depot they've got to Hinckley. Quite a trek and fuel cost at the minute.
