You lot are showing your age! No Rauno Aaltonen or Erik Carlson though, so maybe you’re not *that* old…

Rallying was *the* sport in my house growing up, my Dad being a clubman driver. I was in the forests of Yorkshire in the Group B days, albeit just under 5 years old in ‘86, we had a family sweepstake for the RAC winner each year. At the time my favourites were Russell Brookes (I got his autograph at the start of the National Breakdown one year) and Hannu Mikkola.

Nowadays I couldn’t pick one, there have been too many great rally drivers: Burns, McRae (Jimmy and Colin especially but Alister was no slouch either), Gronholm, Panizzi, Pond (hustling that big Rover around, absolute legend!), Alen, Evans (Gwyndaf and Elfyn), Mark Higgins (that IoM hot lap moment in the Impreza!), Mark Lovell (incredible on the Manx in the Sierra Cosworth), Patrick Snijers (ditto but in the BMW). The list is really is endless, every driver is incredible to watch…

Unfortunately the current WRC doesn’t excite me like the rallying of yesteryear, it just doesn’t seem as epic as it used to…
