IVA passenger seat question

Hi gang,

Have just been looking at the IVA migrane... I mean manual, and I can't seem to figure this out. Does the passenger seat need to be adjustable for the test? It's not like the passenger really needs to be able to get closer to pedals or anything?

Anyone able to clarify this for me please?

TIA
Jay

my interpretation:

I am sure the passenger seat does not need to slide back and fourth
the ones on the lotus elise dont

but if adjustable they
"must incorporate an automatic locking system which operates in all
positions provided for normal use"

---------------
this would probably extend to the drivers seat too.

-------------
edit to add, just found a note in the mirrors section which states
"In cases where the driver’s seat is adjustable, position the seat in the rearmost position. "

ie. neither seat needs to be adjustable.

section: Indirect Vision 08, annex 1

Consider Ron Champions original car, it just had a rear bench and seat back. No adjustment at all. Yes ok, it was designed for SVA rather than IVA but it still applies.

The IVA isn't there to ensure the car is comfortable or driveable, it's there to ensure it's safe.

No seats have to be adjustable but if they are, there has yo be a locking system.

However if the drivers one is fixed and too close to the wheel for the tester to get in/drive, then they can refuse to test it (the car not the seat) I believe.

I’ve made both my seats fixed to make it easier to deal with seatbelt routing (whilst making sure it’s comfortable for me). I’m 5’11” so hoping I get a similar sized IVA tester when the day comes!

Admittedly mine was SVA'd but both seats were bolted to crossmembers. I only made driver's seat adjustable when I sold the car as the buyer was about 6" shorter than me and it made it a bit more comfortable for him.

Thanks to you all for the information. Safe to say the car has now lost the passenger side runners and is 2.4kg lighter

SVA not IVA for me.

Driver and passenger seats both fixed. Driver seat fixed for my height to the wheel and pedals.
No issues, kept harness routing simple, seat fitting simple and overall weight down.

If it's not necessary, leave it out.

You don't need another reply but mine passed IVA with both seats fixed to the floor with no adjustment
