Locost for sale
Unfortunately loss of storage (caused by divorce…) is forcing me to sell my Locost.
It’s rather different.
It was built by a guy called Brian Evans, who previously built a Foreman P4. He had a pub discussion with a friend about how to get best power from an
MGB. His solution was to fit an Eaton supercharger from a BMW mini, and he built this car to test his engine.
It is built on the McSorley 442 plans so it is larger than a standard Locost. This means generous space in the footwell - there is a genuine dead
pedal to rest your clutch foot on! It will accommodate even the largest driver.
The car has a de Dion rear end with a Sierra LSD, disk brakes all round.
The engine is a late 18V MGB engine with a 4 speed overdrive gearbox. The supercharger sucks fuel through a 2” SU carburettor into a custom plenum.
There is a blow off valve in case it all gets spicy.
When I got the car it ran OK, but was detonating badly. I fitted water/methanol injection to reduce the charge temperature - I’ve only ever run it
with water though. I also fitted a 123+ tune replacement distributor. This is fully programmable with a custom ignition curve created by me with
advice from an MGB forum.
I also made a new dashboard over lockdown, photos in my Photo archive
The car runs well - there are pops and bangs on occasion so maybe a more scientific set up on a rolling road would benefit it.
There is a lockable boot compartment and a rain cover for use when parked. There isn’t a hood, although the screen has poppers fitted.
The car is currently fitted with swept wings and Ford alloys. Also included are a set of cycle wings, and another set of alloys with road legal semi
slick track tyres. The car has never been on track.
It got a fresh MoT today.
On the V5 it’s described as ‘MG Supercharged’. I checked with DVLA when I bought the car and they are happy with this as it was presented for IVA as
this. I have a photo file from the build.
It is currently in lincolnshire, not too far from Newark. I can send more pics on request.
I’m looking for £5495 for it.
