Best tyres for a Westfield only used on the road.

The 19 year old Toyo R888 tyres on my Westfield need to be replaced due to the rubber deteriorating.

I use Yokohama A539 185 60 13 tyres on my rear engine MEC One car which I have been pleased with.

Do you have any suggestions for other makes and models of tyre that I should consider using?

I used Evergreen tyres on the MK after them being recommended by the son-in-law.
He had them on a Porsche Boxster.

Toyo Proxes TR1 are good value I think and just fine for road use.

was told in my tyre place that toyos are harder to get hold of now, unless you are buying a container load
they have apparently left the uk

I'd love to give my imaginary friend a great big hug,

but this jacket makes it impossible.

Not sure if good one:

Not much choice in 13" tyres these days. The Yokos are probably the best bet.

Best tyres for a Westfield for road use only.

Thanks for your suggestions.

The range of 13 inch tyres is limited. Uniroyal Rain Sport 5's are popular but they are only available for larger diameter wheels. Some 13 inch tyres are intended for track use and therefore expensive.

I decided to look at prices for Yokohama A539 185 - 60 -13 size which I had been satisfied with on my MEC One rear engine car.

The dearest price from Kwikfit was £130 each. The cheapest on-line price was £81 each plus £7 carriage from Demon Tweeks ( I'm not sure if the was per tyre or for 4 items) plus £20 fitting and balancing quoted by several local tyre dealers making an inclusive price of £103 or £108.

I rang a Tyre dealer who I used some years ago in Bromsgrove who had them in stock and quoted £78 all in so I took the wheels off the Westfield as was there within the hour and had them fitted and am very pleased.

If you send me a U2U I will l give you the name of the dealer.

Caterham boys love the uniroyal rainexpert / rainsport (i can never remember which) for the non spirited driving / touring when you may encounter proper rain.

For spirited driving the now defunct Avon ZZS is being replaced with the Toyo R888R (Toyo reorganised and moved the european head office to poland - they've not exited as such. The issue is most Caterham owners with ZZS are now replacing them with R888R so supply is outstripping demand)

AFAIK european head office (Toyo) is in Germany with planned moving to Serbia, not Poland.

Anyway in fact, not many choces for 13" road, not semi slick tyres.

If you are looking for Yokohamas try George Polley Motorsport. The Yokohama A539 in 185/60/13 is the control tyre for the 1300cc Crossflow powered Locost series.

Camskill Tyres is a useful website for seeing what is available in particular sizes.

Cheers
Mike

I've just ordered some Toyo TR1's for 15" rims via Asda tyres, 73 quid each, fitted at local tyre shop. So the Toyo's are still available.
