insurance change after passing test, company closed at the weekend

My son passed his test today and needs to change the policy. The insurance company are closed until Monday morning, does that mean he cant drive the car until then? I assume that he can drive with me in the passenger seat?

Now he has passed, he can't drive it until the insurance is changed.
