Old diesel burns better
Ran out of diesel this morning due to a faulty gauge wire. Put in the jerry can 20L I bought 18 months ago.
Recently I've noticed my dodgy engine mounts are very dodgy and idle was shaking the dash to bits. 20L of old fuel and my idle is smooth.
Weird coincidence?

I've got some diesel that is years old. Googling suggested its useless as it breaks down over time (i didn't realise). Perhaps its got less
hydrocarbons in it so is less powerful?

Still need to replace the engine mounts, if it breaks free the cost of the parts is going to seem a bargain. Does your car have a chassis mounted mass
damper? Mine has one on the front valance and it's quite smooth even when idling.

Well yes, I do need to do so, I agree. I also need to replace the sump because I have a slick on the drive.
No chassis mass damper, when the engine mounts aren't buggered it's smooth as a babies butt.

Car runs on veg oil, used engine oil, pretty much anything I put in it. But you're right, as the fuel ages I suspect its changing its makeup,
I'm just surprised it gets smoother, not rougher!
I wouldn't worry too much about old diesel, my old commonrail peugeot ran fine on 9 year old diesel.
