Need a readable wiring diagram
Where can I get a readable wiring diagram for my Locost's 1979 Ford Escort Estate donor? The Haynes manual wiring diagrams sucks. Any
suggestions? Russ

Ok I’m at my wits end on this darn car. It died on me while on holiday and I put it in the trailer to sort it out when we got home. I think I traced
it down to an ignition problem. So I tore out the old two position switch and the push to start switch and put in a standard 4 pole turn to start
switch. Worked great. Took it out tonight to get gas. Turned off the ignition at the station. No problem. Got home and turned off the ignition. Engine
keeps running. Reach over to the kill switch. Turn it off and the engine keeps running. It's not dieseling. Generator/oil pressure light is on.
Remove the bonnet and pull the coil lead off and it still wants to run but finally stops after a few seconds. I did not touch the kill switch wiring
when I replaced the ignition switch. Any ideas??? Russ

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble.
To be honest I've used the Haynes diagrams before - they are pretty good. However it doesn't take much to find other diagrams. Like this
one...

Has it got an electric fan fitted and was it running when the ignition was turned off?
Phoned the local ramblers club today, but the bloke who answered just
went on and on.

Yes it has an electric fan and no I don't think it was running at the time this happened. Why? Russ

if you have an electric fan fitted, switched from the 'ignition live', and
turn the ignition switch off,
the overrun of the fan can act as a generator,
powering enough of the ignition circuit to keep the engine running.
edit: relays can cure this.
edit2: or you could power the fan from the unswitched live. but beware it could run without the engine on, and the fan may start quite a while after
being parked,
this will munch any nearby human fingers without warning...
