If you phone DVLA and say you want to register a Kit Car, they'll send ALL the relevant paperwork, including SVA application form.
Not too difficult to fill in, just ask about design weights and don't put the first thing you think of on the form. I had to write a letter stating that I was the chassis builder and declare the design weights have been changed!!

Agreed - get in touch with your local DVLA man. He'll send you all the stuff, and help you fill it in if you get really stuck (I talked through the form with him in a phone conversation). There are quite a few questions you wont be able to fill in when you first apply, so it's quite a relief when he tells you to skip them!

I found the Ipswich man to be friendly and helpful, and by the time he came out the check the car and paperwork I already knew what to expect, and had everything laid out ready.

Do the preparation and inspection well before the SVA - you won't have to hang around after you pass, and just get out on the road...
