Vehicle inspection / Age releated plate

Hi, Just been speaking to Birmingham DVLA. Very helpful but ......

Karen mentioned that the car must be inspected by her at the DVLA before registration can take place (i believe irrespective of age related plate or not - but not 100% sure). To get to the DVLA centre it must be trailered. If i can organise an SVA for the days she's working on "kit cars" she will do her best to view the car at the same time as SVA but can't make a guarentee.

Has everyone else had to do this? I thought people just turned up in person to register.

I passed SVA and then on the way home, drove to Beverley DVLA office and was told that they needed to inspect it prior to registration.

I agreed to bring the car again the following day as the inspector wasn't there at the time. I did so and he came out to the car park, - wrote down a few details of which donor parts I used, - checked the chasis number and then went back into the DVLA office to get my paperwork.

I provided a V5 and although had used a bike engine told the inspector that I had used as many donor parts from the Sierra as possible. - The fact that he asked me whether I had used the chasis (on my MK!) kind of indicated to me how much he knew! - and subsequently I got a nice age related plate

Regards, Mark.

I drove to an appointment at Stockton DVLA prior to passing SVA.
The young girl that inspected it knew nothing about cars and believed everything I told her about the donor parts.
However she insisted that I got an MOT before she would register it (as well as SVA obviously).
