R1 prop adaptor

Have got a prop adaptor for my R1. Seems very well made but runs VERY close to engine casing as it rotates. What is the normal clearance here.

Mine's not that close and its difficult so see how it would get "VERY close" (assuming you mean 1-2mm max), as the standard prop flange diameter is a set diameter and there's a reasonable amount of room behind it (on my 2003 engine at least).
Where did you get the flange from?
