Where to put a datalogging box

Looking at either a Digidash or DL1 datalogger. any thoughts on the best place to put the box to encourage a long life? I presume as far from the engine as possible but not so far that the sensor lands can't be run.

I think some people pu them in the passenger footwell. maybe an idea to get a foot rest on hinges and put it behind that?

The Digidash ones I have seen seem to end up on the surface behind the engine in front of the scuttle...

I suppose under the scuttle is possible as well if you extend the rs232 port with a cable for connection to the pc...
